Question 1

Do I need to know how to belay?

Accepted Answer

Not for a properly guided introductory day. Tell the guide honestly what you have and have not done before so they can select suitable skills and venue.

Question 2

Is Yangshuo suitable for beginners?

Accepted Answer

Yangshuo has a broad range of sport-climbing crags, but the appropriate venue depends on current conditions, access, local support and the group's experience.

Question 3

Can we climb if it rains?

Accepted Answer

Do not assume so. Rock type, wall aspect, route condition, lightning risk and the approach all matter. Include a rest day, indoor alternative or non-climbing option.

Question 4

How many days should a climbing trip include?

Accepted Answer

For a first visit, allow at least one flexible climbing day plus a weather or recovery alternative. A climbing-led itinerary needs more margin for rest, access changes and route choice.
